Hi to all Granny’s good apples around the country. 

Thank you for taking the time to learn about G-GAT LGBTQ+ Dementia Support CIC.
G-GAT grew from something very personal to me. My mym Mollie lived with vascular dementia, and our journey together showed me just how deeply dementia can affect not only the person living with it, but everyone who loves and cares for them.

Later, I became increasingly aware that LGBTQ+ people affected by dementia can face additional challenges. Some have experianced discrimination, rejection or isolation during their lives.
Growing older, developing dementia or needing care should never mean having to hide who you are, fear being judged, or lose the identity you have spent a lifetime building.
That is why G-GAT exists.
We want to build a welcoming community where LGBTQ+ people living with dementia, their carers, partners, families and chosen families know that they are seen, respected and valued.
We also recognise the particular experiances of people within our community who are living with both HIV and dementia, and we want them to know that there is a place for them within the G-GAT family too.

Our ambitions are considerable, but our principle is very simple:
People should be able to live with dementia and dignity, compassion and respect while remaining completely true to who they are.
Every donation, fundraising event, volunteer hour, indtroduction, shared message and act of support helps us move closer to that goal.
G-GAT may be a new CIC, but behind it are years of lived experiance, community involment and determination. We are building something that I hope will continue long into the future - something that offers information when people need answers and companionship when the feel alone.
